September 27-28, 2024
September is a wonderful month for tennis, and Murraywood is looking forward to our annual adult doubles tournament to support our local Special Olympics tennis team, the Saluda Slammers! The Slammers compete each October in a national tournament, Special Olympics North America (SONA), held in Hilton Head, and the funds we raise help them offset associated costs.
The Doing Good in the ‘Wood Tournament will be held Friday evening and Saturday, September 27 and 28, 2024. Sunday, September 29 will be a rainout date, and/or possible extra play date for very large draws.
USTA Numbers for BOTH Partners Required to Register
Please note that you and your doubles partner will both need a USTA number to register. THERE IS NO CHARGE TO GET A USTA NUMBER TO PLAY IN TOURNAMENTS! Click here to get your USTA number. Once you enter your USTA information, you will find your number located in your account settings on the right hand side of the screen. Look for the cog. Your USTA number will also be emailed to you. (If you wish to join USTA to play league, you will need to pay a membership fee).
You will also need to know your double’s partner’s USTA number to ensure the system creates the correct team and draw for you.
Tournament Format
The format is men’s and women’s doubles, NTRP ratings of 3.0, 3.5, 4.0 and “open” for 18+, 40+, 55+, and 65+ age groups. Play format is best two out of three sets with a 10-point tiebreaker in lieu of a full third set. Play format may be modified at the discretion of the tournament director in the event of weather delays and/or very large draws.
Friday night will feature first rounds AND a special unified player exhibition of our Special Olympians and Murraywood junior players. We will provide heavy hors d’oeuvres and non-alcoholic beverages; players and spectators are welcome to provide their own alcoholic beverages.
Saturday play will be complemented by light breakfast and lunch fare.
Proceeds from the tournament will go to the Saluda Slammers. If you would like to make an additional donation to this young group of athletes, click here: DONATE TO THE SALUDA SLAMMERS SPECIAL OLYMPICS TENNIS TEAM.
