Kids Kick Cancer!

Hello MSRC Families!

I’m excited to be heading up our Annual Kids Kick Cancer fundraiser where all donations will go directly toward Camp Kemo.

Camp KEMO is a weeklong summer camp that provides a normal camping experience for children with cancer and their siblings.

The camp’s Mission Statement states, “Through sharing this experience with children with the same concerns, it is hoped that each child will gain strength and support. The focus of activities and interactions will be to emphasize the positive abilities of each child, to help increase the child’s self-esteem and to begin preparation for re-entry into the mainstream of life.”

Camp Kemo is able to provide this experience through donations of all levels  from individuals and/or organizations. Murraywood Swim supports this effort and asks our families to join in the cause for this Camp that impacts so many.

We will be collecting the money all day Friday June 24. We will begin during our kids kick cancer event from 8am to 10:30am. As well as during normal pool hours Friday.

Please make all Checks Payable to Camp KEMO!

If you have any questions, feel free to ask William Mohon!

Thank you for your help in supporting Camp Kemo through Kids Kick Cancer!

More Exciting Pool Stuff!

Last Friday we held our first meeting of the Pool Social Committee. Some members are calling this committee the Pool Fun Team and that is a correct name! 26 of your fellow members have begun planning a summer filled with fun activities. Our Pool calendar on the website will be changing quite a lot so check the website often – we’ll update activities as we get them planned. Now is a good time to emphasize that the committee is open to all who want to join the team – please do join us either by suggestions or volunteering or both!

Specifics as of now:
Movie Night will be pushed to mid-July to ensure we have the right equipment. We’ll have our first FRIDAY DINNER COOKOUT and CANNONBALL CONTEST on Friday, 6/24. Cannonball Contest will have awards by age group and will start at 4:30. A few of the committee members have volunteered to fix burgers, hot dogs, quesadillas, jalapeno poppers, nachos, fries and more on Friday from 6:00 – 7:30. This menu will be a la carte pricing with all profits going to a dedicated fund for future pool renovations and upgrades.
If the 6/24 Friday Cookout is popular, we will repeat it, change up the menu and open the grilling to anyone who loves to grill!

Pool Stuff!

Dear Murraywood Pool Members,
HAPPY SUMMERTIME, 2022!!!
Welcome to summer at the very best pool around!! I’m so happy that you’ve joined the pool community at Murraywood and look forward to meeting you soon.
Our staff is great – we have a new pool manager, Tim Carmody – and our lifeguards are wonderful! Some new faces and some you’ll recognize as favorites from last year.
I’m Kathi Sill and I’m on the Board of Directors. I’m your Pool Chair and my intention is to help make this summer one of the best ever at Murraywood – tall order, but with your help, I believe we can do it.
First order – let’s plan more social events for the members! I’d like to form a POOL SOCIAL COMMITTEE and I’m asking for volunteers….

Pool Manager for 2022

Please welcome our new Pool Manager, Tim Carmody. Tim is very familiar with Murraywood, having coached the DFHS high school swim team which practices at our facility, for several years. Originally from Cincinnati, Ohio, Tim came to school to USC in 1987 and has stayed ever since. He has worked around local pools and swim teams off and on including managing Hunting Creek Swim and Raquet Club. In addition, he is finishing his 27th year of teaching elementary school here in Irmo. He is looking forward to meeting our Murraywood families!
